Hackney Women's Football Club (HWFC) was founded in 1986 and was the first totally women run team and the first out lesbian team in London , possibly even the UK. HWFC was also the first team to instigate a fair play policy, ensuring that all women are encouraged to train and play competitive football regardless of their skills, age, ethnic origin and sexual orientation. All women are welcome.

Winning Singing Women
HWFC encourage fun and enjoyment from training and social gatherings. Although we're competitive we like to make you welcome and we play positive friendly football, in the hope that you'll stay around for a long time. We are East London based and currently have two teams in the club playing in the Greater London Women's Football League. We like to win, but our main aim is to enjoy our game and play as a team, with our supporter(s) singing and cheering us on.
Social
After training and matches we usually go for a drink. We also organise informal gatherings such as ten-pin bowling, greyhound racing and meals. We sometimes put on club fundraisers like discos and quiz nights. All players, partners and friends are encouraged to attend. HWFC is a diverse and entertaining group of women who like to play well on and off the pitch.
Tournaments
We enter a number of tournaments all over the country during the close season. These are open to all players and are on a first come first served basis. They are great fun, especially when we get to go away for a Hackney Weekender - an experience in itself and something I'm sure you'll hear about.
